Maggie Vandermeer

I have been obedience training dogs for 20 years, and working with Kremer Veterinary Services and Help Save Pets for the past 6 years. I evaluate and temperament test dogs for the shelter for which I received an award for volunteer of the year in 2008. I also work with KVS clients to help train and build good relationships between owner and pet. I have an associate degree in science with several animal science classes completed. My training includes working under 3 professional dog trainers for the first 5 years and several training seminars before I started training on my own. My family includes Dan, my husband, a Rottweiler named Sakai, a Collie/Shepherd called Indy and an American Pit Bull who goes by the name Zanchu. Working with dogs has been a life-long passion. Love and communication is the key to good leadership.

Maggie’s Training Philosphy:
My approach is focused on clear communication and leadership while taking into account the diversity of each dog. The goal is to help dogs understand manners and behavior appropriate to our human world and teach families to communicate those skills clearly so their dogs understand. My style of training emphasizes on the importance of leadership with lots of verbal and hands on praise. It is important that dogs understand who the leader is with direction and not food as a bribe. After all, dogs are body language animals and communicate that way with each other.
