Dr. Joyce Ashamalla

Dr. Ashamalla received her BS in Animal Sciences from the University of Illinois. She graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine also at the University of Illinois in May of 2007. She joined the Animal Care Center as an associate veterinarian shortly after graduation. In June 2008 she began working at Hinsdale Animal Hospital and became manager and partner shortly thereafter. She is a member of the AVMA, ISVMA, CVMA and has her USDA/APHIS veterinary accreditation. She has an interest in both internal medicine and surgery, including orthopedics and has a background in toxicology. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and appreciating her French bulldog, Ernie.
Dr. Karen Heger

Dr. Heger is an associate veterinarian with Hinsdale Animal Hospital. She has been there for 13 years. She received a BA at Cornell University, a BS at the University of Illinois and her degree in veterinary medicine in 1985 at University of Illinois. Dr. Heger is a member of the ISVMA, AVMA and CVMA and is a recipient of the American Association of Feline Practitioners Award. Her main interests are Feline and Canine internal medicine. Outside of work she enjoys yoga, cooking and gardening. Her pets are Gilbert and Sullivan, two red tabby cats and whatever goldfish in their pond that the egrets have not eaten.
Dr. Tim Brandes

Dr. Brandes has been in practice for a total of 12 years, 7 of which have been at the Hinsdale Animal Hospital. He graduated with a BS in Animal Science from Iowa State in 1994 and earned his DVM in 1998 at Iowa State as well. He is currently a member of ISVMA, CVMA and AVMA. His main interest as a veterinarian is internal medicine. In his pastime Dr. Brandes enjoys watching pro and college football, American history and spending time with his family. He has a 10 year old, one eyed Shih-tzu named, Amelia, a 2 year old mixed breed dog named Lola, a 16 year old cat named Herbie and O’Malley a 3 year old cat. All his pets are rescues.
Kristi Moore - Clinic Manager

Kristi is the manager of Hinsdale Animal Hospital and has been with Kremer Veterinary Services for 3 years. She has a BS in Animal Science of the University of Illinois and graduated in 2003. She has three shelties- Casey, 11years old, Cali, 4 years old and Lady who is 2.
Dr. Tony Kremer

Dr. Tony Kremer graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990 and has founded three scholarships at that college for veterinary students that have financial need. He has been the owner of 9 veterinary practices and is president and co-founder of Help Save Pets an animal shelter that has adopted over 1200 animals annually into loving homes. He is also a member of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association Public Education Committee and has routinely appeared on NBC 5 Chicago as well as FOX Chicago and ABC 7 News. He has a special interest in Orthopedic Surgery and has performed advanced knee and hip procedures as well as complicated fracture repair. In his spare time, he loves to Motorcycle, scuba dive, and play guitar. He has run the Chicago Marathon and is currently training for the Chicago Triathalon. His wife, Meg has a master degree in Engineering as well as becoming a certified obedience trainer and pet groomer. She is currently the executive director of Help Save Pets. They have 2 rescued dogs named Boots and China, a cat named Spyder, and 2 horses named Tango and Dancer.
Dr. Michael Buedel

Dr. Michael Buedel has been Chief of Staff and partner at Animal Care Center of Plainfield since 2002. He is also a partner in the four other clinics of Kremer Veterinary Services. Dr. Buedel attended University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for his undergraduate studies and majored in Biology. After graduating from the U of I in 1996, he attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Buedel graduated valedictorian of his class in 2000 and immediately began practicing at Animal Care Center. He takes pleasure in all facets of veterinary medicine, but particularly enjoys orthopedic surgery. He has learned and honed is surgical skills by attending continuing education courses in orthopedics, including an advanced masters course. He has also had opportunities to share his passion of veterinary medicine with the community by appearing on NBC 5 and going to schools to talk to children. Starting in 2008, he has sponsored a scholarship for a Ross University student with financial need who is attending the University of Illinois for their clinical year.
Dr. Buedel and his wife Jennifer, a high school teacher of 11 years, have two young daughters who keep them laughing and “on their toes”. Ten years ago they adopted a basset hound mix named Flounder from Help Save Pets and he continues to be a great joy in their lives. In his free time, Dr. Buedel loves to travel, ski, and keep up with the Chicago sports teams as much as possible.
Dr. Jason Jacobsen

Dr. Jacobsen is the managing partner of the Oswego Animal Hospital. He started with Kremer Veterinary Services in 1998 working in the kennels. He received his BS in Animal Sciences from University of Illinois in 2000 and attended Ross University where he obtained his degree in Veterinarian Medicine in 2004. Dr. Jacobsen is a member of the ISVMA, CVMA AND AVMA and has taken basic and advanced courses in orthopedics. His interests include both small animal surgery and orthopedic surgery. In his off time Dr. Jacobsen enjoys flying planes, hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife, Donna and their daughter, Larkin. Included in the Jacobsen family are Jersey, a golden retriever, Libby, a lab and three cats, Taco, Lola and Katie.
Dr. Robert Buchanan III

Dr. Buchanan is the managing veterinarian at Mallard Point Veterinary Clinic and has been with Kremer Veterinary Services for 7 years. He is currently practicing full-time emergency medicine at CARE. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University and attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. He is currently a member of AVMA, ISVMA, CVMA and has an AO certification in advanced orthopedics. His special interests are small animal medicine and orthopedics and greyhound medicine and racetrack injuries. When Dr. Buchanan is not busy being a vet he enjoys salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, traveling to the Caribbean and spending time with his wife and 2 sons. The Buchanan family also includes Jax, a lab mix acquired from a shelter, and Mookie a rescued cat.
Dr. John Michael

Dr. John Michael is a managing partner at Animal Care Center, Hinsdale Animal Hospital and CARE Animal Emergency Services. He has been with Kremer Veterinary Services since 2007. He received his BS in Animal Science from the University of Illinois in 2003 and his DVM in 2007 from University of Illinois as well. His primary interests as a veterinarian are small animal medicine and surgery, with a special interest in neurology and orthopedic surgery. Dr. Michael grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and spends his free time attending sporting events, rooting on the Fighting Illini, Bears, Bulls and White Sox. He owns a Bullmastif named Titan and a Persian cat named Fluffy.
